The key in preventing tooth decay, gingivitis, or pigment spots on the teeth is prevention.
In addition to maintaining good oral hygiene at home, regular dental hygiene appointments are essential. We recommend scheduling them 2-3 times a year, thanks to which you will not only have healthy and shiny teeth, but also a delightful sensation in your mouth.
Our dental hygienists are dedicated to educating you on proper at-home dental care to maintain healthy, pearly-white teeth.
1. Gentle and thorough tartar removal
Dental hygiene begins with a gentle removal of tartar, which cannot always be cleaned with a toothbrush. We first remove tartar using ultrasound and then clean the teeth manually, by means of curettes.
2. Sandblasting
Our dental hygienists use a fine powder (sand) with a neutral pH to remove pigment spots, restoring your teeth to their natural colour without damaging enamel.
3. Enamel Polishing
Using a small toothbrush, your teeth will be polished to a brilliant shine, enhancing the effects of the previous steps.
4. Education on Proper Dental Care
Our dental hygienists will provide guidance on toothbrush selection, proper cleaning techniques, and recommend toothpaste tailored to your needs.
5. Purchase of Dental Aids
If specialized dental hygiene products are recommended, you can conveniently purchase them at our reception. We ensure you have everything you need for optimal oral health. We are waiting for you.
Coverage varies among health insurance companies. Our clinic is contracted with all major insurance companies in Slovakia - VšZP, Union, and Dôvera. Upon completing dental hygiene, we will provide you with a document for the reimbursement of the procedure that you must send to the insurance company or upload to their application. (Western Clinic is a non-contracted provider for health insurance companies.)
Yes. The visual cleanliness of teeth and the actual condition of the oral cavity are not the same thing.

What happens without regular hygiene
Tartar constantly presses on the gum margin and damages the tissue. This triggers chronic inflammation — gingivitis, and later periodontitis. With periodontitis, the bone tissue around the tooth is destroyed: the gums recede, teeth become loose, and over time may fall out — even if the teeth themselves are healthy and cavity-free.
Home hygiene does not replace professional hygiene
A toothbrush and toothpaste remove plaque from accessible surfaces. However, the spaces between teeth, the area under the gums, and hard-to-reach spots require dental floss, a water flosser, and a dentist's instruments. Even with perfect home hygiene, tartar still forms — just more slowly.
The absence of pain and complaints does not mean the absence of problems. Most oral diseases develop without symptoms and are only detected during a routine check-up.
Our commitment to regular professional training and investment in new technologies ensures that we provide modern procedures and equipment at the highest level.
